Staging FAQs...What to Do If You Are Leaving for the Season or Vacation.
If you are a snowbird with your home on the market and wondering what to do before you head north, here are 8 tips that will help your home continue to be in show ready condition.
Even if you won’t be heading north for the summer, you may have a vacation planned and will need to make sure that your home will continue to show well.
8 Tips to Help Your House Show Well When You Are Gone…
1. Keep Your Air Conditioner ON and Cool!
Now is not the time to try to save pennies when it could cost you the sale of your house. Who wants to look at a home when it’s cooler outside than inside. Buyers will bolt!
2. Do NOT put your Hurricane Shutters up!
Yes, hurricane season begins June 1, but if your house is on the market, you still need to let your buyers see what they’re buying.
And, even if you have every light on in the house, how will your buyers be able to get out to the pool/patio area?
Make arrangements for someone to install them before you leave!
3. Keep the backyard area looking like the oasis your buyers are looking for.
Don’t take everything in leaving your buyers to look at...well nothing! How can they imagine themselves outside enjoying our tropical weather if all they see is grass or a pool with no lounge chairs or tables?
You also don’t want your buyers to have to envision your family from without the extra lounge chairs and tables taking up every square inch of the room.
4. Make sure your lawn service is doing its job!
Most lawns in South Florida need mowing twice a week in the summer. Everything grows faster here anyway, so make sure your service is on top of everything. And, have a friend or neighbor drive by to check on it for you.
5. Leave your buyers in the light!
Your agent may not be able to turn every light on before a showing, so don’t leave your buyers in the dark.
Choose lamps or lights and leave them on. Put some on a timer if you can!
6. Make sure that your pool service is there when they are scheduled to be.
If you have a pool, then you know that this is a huge selling point.
Our hot summer temperatures can cause pool water to look like swamp water if the right chemicals aren’t used.
7. Even if you’re not there, your house still needs cleaning!
Your service, if you have one, may not need to do the type of cleaning they would if you were in town, but there are still things that need to be kept up.
They should wipe down countertops, flush toilets, mop/vacuum floors, and make sure things smell clean and fresh.
Also, have them check your entry for spider webs and other areas that need cleaning.
8. Finally, ask a friend, relative, or neighbor to check on your house
Your agent will do their best to double check the integrity of your house and its condition but your house isn’t the only listing they have. They are focused on the marketing of your property!
Whether you’re gone for the season or just a short vacation, use these tips to make sure your home looks its best!
