"They say golf is like life, but don't believe them. It is much more complicated than that."
Yesterday, I had the pleasure of playing golf with my cousin Kevin at Bear Mountain in Chelan, Washington. We don't play together often but when we do we enjoy Match Play. Match Play is when players play hole-by-hole and not for total strokes. You either win, lose or tie a hole. Whoever wins the most holes is the winner of the match.
It's a pretty well-accepted fact that men are stronger and hit the ball farther than women. I hit the ball pretty far for an amateur woman but I certainly can't hit as far as Kevin (or most men who are 16 years younger than me). Kevin, however, doesn't allow any kind of compensation for these facts. He says my better short game offsets his distance advantage. We played hole-by-hole head-to-head from the same tee boxes. My short game nearly saved me, but he ended up beating me by 1 hole. We both played well so I wasn't unhappy.
Kevin and I have a deal that whoever wins buys lunch. I was happy to have earned a free lunch but turns out he (conveniently) forgot his wallet, so I ended up paying for his greens fees AND lunch! We're planning for a rematch soon. I will be sure he has his wallet next time.
The weather was perfect and we had a lot of fun!
