Along with writing blog posts, commenting is a very important task on this site. Are you aware that comments are often indexed by Google? I’ll never forget the time I mentioned another agent’s name in the comment section of my blog post of one of my listings, and my blog post was indexed by Google on a search for that agent’s name. Yes, my blog was on the first page of a Google search for that “agent’s name” and above the fold!!
By the way, that agent is a friend of mine, and I directed her to ActiveRain and blogging several years ago. After she saw the title of my listing on the landing page of a search for her name, she understood how powerful Google, blogging and commenting were.
Homeowners are notorious for reading every word that’s left on every blog post of their homes. What do you think they feel when an agent leaves a “copy and paste” comment that reads “good luck selling this listing” and the blog post was written to share a recent “sale pending” for that home?
I think it’s better to not comment at all rather than miss the “purpose” of the post. That’s the negative aspect of the ActiveRain point system. If the commenter provides a nice “shout out” for the agent with a compliment to the seller for the sale pending and for hiring that agent, I would imagine that would put a smile on the homeowner’s face. Again, we need to think as a homeowner might be thinking and expecting to read.
Being helpful to the listing agent is a very important task to master every day for each of us. Assisting other members with their efforts to succeed online in the eyes of their clients should be a mission for each of us to accomplish on ActiveRain.
This was just a thought for the moment…..take it for what it’s worth!!!
