A Moment in Nature - Blue Heron Surprise

Real Estate Broker/Owner with ViewHomes of Clark County - Nature As Neighbors

Recently, while shooting a lifestyle video for one of our listings in Felida, we had the camera overlooking a spot on the trail. It was a fortuitous spot to choose too. At first, we didn't notice the Great Blue Heron standing on the bank. Nature has ensured these wading birds easily blend in with the habitat along waterways - where they frequently dine.

In addition to the benefit of natural camouflage, they are also able to stand motionless for extended periods of time, waiting patiently for prey to venture near. What a wonderful surprise to see this delightful creature make a move. Although, we weren't treated to its company for long - apparently this hunting bird had places to go.  A moment in nature always brings us unexpected gifts.

ViewHomes™ grew out of our passion for nature, beautiful surroundings, and peaceful environments. Starting together in an urban environment, over the years we've gravitated towards areas with smaller populations and less density. We now enjoy our lifestyle in a rural environment, but with close proximity to metropolitan areas where we appreciate all the amenities of fine restaurants, shopping, and an easy drive to an international airport.
Living in ViewHomes™ is like having “elbowroom for the soul”.

Is that heron eating a snake? Oh yuck, Debb! Can't stand to look even at pictures of snakes. All that aside... they are lovely birds... we see them here in Charlotte. They like to snack on koi in people's ponds...

Lesson learned.  Maybe I should think more like a Great Blue Heron.  Remain still, calm and wait for my business to come to me.  Not sure that would be effective in real estate though.

That's one amazing photo in SO many regards, Debb Janes EcoBroker and Bernie Stea JD ... the timing of it was fantastic!  I'm becoming a huge bird watching fan .. so much that my wife kids me about being the "Bird Man of Lockport" ... ala Burt Lancaster's movie.

Keep sharing ... fascinating!

Debb, I enjoyed the video of your visitor!  We have a Great Blue Heron who likes to fly in for some fish dinner on the pond out in our backyard.  Sad to say I have seen him catch more fish that I on several occassions!  As you said it is so amazing how still they can be for long periods of time before striking!

Having watched them they have a very interesting fishing technique.  They will spear larger fish and pin them against the bottom and slightly open their beak so the large fish can't escape and they then make their way to the bank to finish off their new meal.  With smaller fish they will trap them in between the lower and upper beak and then raise their head and beak into the air and then move the fish to the back of the mouth to swallow it whole.  You can tell sometimes they don't go down easily!

Continued prayers for your dad and your family!!!!
