How Will You Ride Off Into the Sunset?

How Will You Ride Off Into the Sunset?

In the over 10 years that I’ve been here on ActiveRain, I’ve seen agents come horse and riderand go. Some have put their focus elsewhere for blogging; others found that this wasn’t for them.

And...some have decided it was time to say Happy Trails to You, that is to say, they have retired from being a full-time agent, stager, lender, or inspector.

Topic Idea…

What is your exit strategy? Will you retire from whatever you do totally? Will you continue to work in some capacity and rely on referrals?

Contest or Challenge…

A challenge because all of us are facing this, have faced it, or will face it down the road. The more ideas, the better.

Topic Summary…

Share with us what your plans are. Some of you have already executed those plans, migrating more into marketing and getting referrals from your efforts.

If you haven’t reached that point but have something in mind or if you really haven’t given it a thought share that too. Some have moved into multiple streams of income.

You don’t have to get into your personal finances, etc but what are your thoughts and plans?

And we don’t want your clients to think you’re heading out the door either, so tell us what you feel comfortable with.

Everyone entering will be awarded points (1000 points?). Entries should have a 200-word minimum with at least one photo or clip art.

Learning Opportunity or Just for Fun?

Definitely a learning opportunity. Let’s face it, none of us are getting out of this standing up if you know what I mean.

Is there a specific time of year that this should be held?

Any time of the year will work for this one!

The most important home I sell is YOURS!

I am pretty sure I will suck at retirement, but I am looking at the possibilities of eventually handing this business over to someone.  I have been looking at a lot of alternatives for my 3-5 year plan and honestly, it's not easy.  I will always keep my license for rental property and the opportunity to flip, but I am no longer interested in working 50+ hours per week.  As with everything in our profession, you have to plan this.  It won't just happen by itself.

Great idea, Kathy. I've given this topic a lot of thought in the last few years, and a plan is gelling.

It will be interesting to read what ideas we all have about retirement.

Since I was young I was never interested in experiencing retiring. I still have no interest in it for myself.

I wonder if others would have a way of persuading me to think different????

My retirement plans are linked to my husbands, he wants to be done in 5 years time. At that point we likely will move states and I have no intention of starting over. It scares and excites me all at the same time.

Kathy, now this is very appropriate topic for this platform and  for the demographics of the membership, it would be interesting to see what the age of the participants will be to this contest.... Endre

Last time I checked, the average Realtors is in their late 50's.   The proverbial sunset is coming soon for many of us.  What a great idea for a contest, Kathy!

Hi Kathy

What a great idea for a challenge, and I can imagine it would generate some pretty interesting thoughts.

I don't even want to think about retirement - not having something I HAD to do would drive me wild. (And housework doesn't count.)

Retirement will finally occur for everyone, for some, it will be unexpected and hopefully swift. I tried retiring earlier in my journey of life but after two years of being restless decided that choosing activities that were both exciting and challenging made for a better lifestyle. So, when the end finally comes and it will come, let it be unexpected and swift.

Good Morning, Kathy, These are a good topic for a contest. I was excited to learn and share my ideas but right now I must plan for 200 words meaningful content. Thanks for sharing.

Great idea!  I think about this subject often as my husband retired and he is more of a 'stay home and lounge around' all day person than I will be. I want to participate

Retirement is something I really haven't thought about but need to. You have to have an EXIT Strategy. We can't do what we do forever. I'd work on mine. Thank you for this contest.

Love this idea, so much in fact I wrote a blog to start my brain to thinking!

Scottsdale Real Estate is a Passion is a starting point for me.  I've thought about how I wil retire, but haven't put pen to paper. Now I can add a few keystrokes to my thought process!
