Fun To Kick Off The Weekend On Friday, April 27
Matthews Food Truck Friday & Concert Series: back for another year, this hugely popular event is a great way to kick off the weekend festivities. A variety of food and dessert trucks every week, great music, inflatables for kids, jenga and corn hole for grown-ups! Bring a chair or blanket and enjoy the downtown vibe in Historic Downtown Matthews (no pets allowed). Location: Stumptown Park.
Fun Things To Do In Charlotte On Saturday, April 28th
- Paws & Pasta in support of the South Charlotte Dog Rescue (SCDR). The free event from 1:00 pm till 4:00 pm will involve food from Vivace and, of course, four-legged friends available for adoption. Location: Vivace.
- Teal Diva 5K Run/Walk for Ovarian and Gynecologic Cancers. Come out from 9:30 am till noon and Celebrate Life! Honor Memories! Create Awareness! Help Fund Research! Click here to register for the Teal Diva 5K. Location: Charlotte's Freedom Park.
"Tunnel to Towers" Tunnel Climb 2018: honoring Firefighter Stephen Siller who have his life on 9/11 and to ensure that the sacrifices of our first responders and military heroes are never forgetten. The climb begins at 8:00 am. All proceeds will benefit The Stephen Siller Foundation the Smart Home Program, which builds specially adapted homes for our nation's most catastrophically injured service members. Location: Duke Energy Building in Uptown Charlotte.
Queen's Cup Steeplechase: benefiting the Alzheimer's Association of Western North Carolina. The Queens' Cup Steeplechase is considered one of the top six social events in the Southeast. It features amazing tailgating parties, fancy hats (enter the 23rd annual Queen's Cup Hat Contest), bow ties, powerful thoroughbreds galloping over 4’6″ obstacles. Dressy wear is encouraged (think Kentucky Derby and Ascot). If you love horse racing, this is where to be on Saturday. Gates will open at 10:00 am. Location: Mineral Springs in Waxhaw.
International Sandwich Festival: purchase/enjoy a wide variety of sandwiches from the many cultures that call the Charlotte metro area home. Enjoy street food ranging from Vietnamese to Latin American. Live music and entertainment from 11:00 am until 6:00 pm, including traditional Mexicano, Latin rock, R&B, an International Community Choir, Brazilian dancers, DJs, salsa, merengue, soul, and more. Admission and parking are free. Just bring your lawn chairs and blankets and enjoy! Location: Aldersgate Retirement Community.

European Tea Dance: sponsored by the A&E Ballroom. A great opportunity to learn ballroom dancing during the event's workshop. this week's featured dance is the American Rumba. 4:00 pm till 6:30 pm. Admission: $10/person. Location: Levine Senior Center in Matthews.
Macaroni Kid Spring Festival: lots of fun from 2:00 till 5:00 pm for the whole family and includes carnival games, prizes, arts and crafts, face painting, live mermaid, a bounce house, food trucks, sweet treats, a DJ and more. Free admission. Location: Symphony Park in Southpark.
- Glamour & Romance of Oscar de la Renta Exhibit: opens on Sunday at Charlotte's Mint Museum and runs through July 29th. The 47-ensemble retrospective pays homage to Oscar de la Renta's work from the 1960s through his death in 2014. This retrospection is part of the “Year of Fashion,” a three-exhibition series celebrating an art form the Mint Museum has collected for more than 40 years. 11:00 till 2:00 pm. Location: Mint Museum.
