I confess... I plan to avoid becoming a real (estate) dinosaur! I shift my business with a 90 day business plan every quarter. Today on January 31st, one-third of my 2018 is over. Here is what happened to date at the 30 day mark and what needs to be done next. Here is a glimpse of my home office meeting today where imagination rules in any plan.
Sorry! I will go back to the beginning. This blog is a reponse to another one of our ActiveRain community challenges to help us become better at what we do in the real estate industry. The challenge was to address how to make 2018 the Best Year Yet by putting goals and plans in writing. Simple? Sure!
I started planning in a 90 year for two reasons. One, time was moving to fast. And two, I could track my activities and adjust to successes and failures quickly. It never made sense to me to wait until the end of the year to see what happened. I am too curious.
Now my headline goals for every 90 plan never change. They are to 1) live my life by design and not default, 2) do the same for my business; and 3) make a difference in my community.
Below this BIG goal umbrella, I typically create three short-term goals to be accomplished in 90 days. This process keeps me focused on creating new habits to change my life and business for the better.
- Day 1-60 Goal: Write daily and revive the habit of participating in Activerain by blogging.
- DOING IT!
- Day 31-60 Goal: Expand my social media network with new habits of engagement beyond clicking the icon "Like" and making connections by commenting and being me.
- STARTING NOW!
- Day 61-90 Goal: Make real estate a 6 Day week and 8 hour day.
- COMING SOON
I discovered by planning my life and business around short-term goals through the year, my dollar productive time actually SOARS. When I focused on the typical real estate training plan format of goal setting by projecting the number of leads, number of appointments, number of sales, I discovered I would often get stuck, procrastinate or watch a movie. And of course lost business!
Thank your for reading. Let me know your take and what you think of 90 day planning.
