Remember the old commercials where the Maytag repair men would be just sitting around with nothing to do? Those were the days before all the high tech which comes with appliances these days.
Last night I went to fill up my water glass before bed and saw some crazy errors displaying on our 25 month old refrigerator.
I spent the next hour emptying the freezer and frig so that food wouldn't spoil. My husband was busying googling the error messages and checking our warranty only to find we were a month late and a dollar short.
He called the company this morning and they informed him that they would be glad to sell him an extended warranty but it would not allow repairs for 30 days. I guess spending $1,600 for a refrigerator isn't a guarantee that it is going to last.
Once he was able to dissect the problem he found a chunk of ice which had formed over the fan of the motor. One of the blades broke off and it was frozen in time.
We were able to order a replacement fan with overnight shipping and should be chilling by tomorrow afternoon.
I always try to look at the bright side of things. For this situation - there are a few bright sides.
I needed to give the refrigerator a deep clean and throw out any old food items which needed to hit the road.
We have a refrigerator and freezer in the basement which works great so we didn't experience any food loss.
I was thirsty at 10:00 pm last night and noticed the message on the refrigerator door before turning in for the night.
So what is my husband going to do between now and when the fan arrives? He is going to order the extended warranty to cover the next 3 years!
