Seventh Blog Of The 2017 Progression Of Fall Colors In Middlefield, CT

It is starting to feel a lot like Winter, as you can see in my Seventh Blog Of The 2017 Progression Of Fall Colors In Middlefield, CT.  Winter is right around the corner in Connecticut, which means my Progression Of Fall Colors series I started six years ago is coming to an end soon. The first two years of this series the pictures were of a farm which is only about a minute walk from my house.  Three years ago I decided to change the location for the 2014 Progression Of Fall Color Series to a lake about 5 minutes from my house on RT17.  I tried that location for two years, but the colors were not as good as I expected them to be.  So last year I decided to change locations again to this present location on a site of Lyman's Orchards in Middlefield CT.

As I have done for the last six years, I have post pictures of this same spot at different points throughout the Fall to show the progression of the Fall colors.  I posted my first blog this year of the 2017 Progression Of Fall Colors In Middlefield, CT about six weeks ago, and my latest blog last Monday.

October was an unusually warm month for this part of the country, and the warm weather delayed the leaves turning color.  The weather was also very dark and gloomy early in October, as you can see in the first picture. However, you will see in the 2nd picture the weather had started to clear up the following week, and the trees started to change color. Four weeks ago the weather had finally started to feel more like Fall.  The temperatures  become cooler, the air more crisp, and the days clearer and brighter.  The leave finally began to change color quickly, and increase in color in the third picture.

I start to become hopeful that bright Fall colors might still becoming our way, but each of the last four weeks progressively made that possibility more and more doubtful.  We got some severe wind gust the last three weeks along with heavy rain, which caused many trees to lose their leaves much quicker than normal. This is very evident in the last four pictures, and very noticeable in my latest picture.  With most of the trees having lost their leaves any possibility of seeing vibrant Fall colors this year have escaped us.

My favorite Fall colors are the trees with yellow, orange, and rust color leafs when they blend together.  Anyone planning to come to New England to enjoy those beautiful Fall colors at their peak next year, should plan on coming between the last two weeks in October to the beginning of November.  I will continue to try to show the progression of the trees in the final weeks of Fall until the trees have become bare for the Winter.

Fall is coming to a conclusion in Middlefield Connecticut and I hope you have enjoyed following my 2017 Progression Of Fall Colors In Middlefield, CT. this year.
