Thankful For The Vehicle Rescue Training At The South Fire District

I live right by the South Fire District Fire House in Middletown, CT, and at least once per year, usually around this time of the year, the South Fire Firemen do vehicle rescue training.  The sight of all the smashed up vehicles always catches my eye and brings me to a sobering realization just how devastating a car crash can be.  This scene of smashed up cars also causes me each time I see it to be Thankful For The Vehicle Rescue Training At The South Fire District in Middletown, Ct our local Fire Department are equipped and ready to handle these devastating events.

The Vehicle Rescue Training At The South Fire District involves the use of heavy machinery like the Jaws of Life, to rescue passengers and drivers involved in a car accident.  Looking at the number of cars and school buses in the parking lot really hits home on how important it is for us as drivers to take all of the precautions possible when we are behind the wheel of a car.

Young drivers in particularly feel they are invincible, and better drivers than they really are.  Young drivers take risks early on, which put their lives in danger beyond what they realize.  As I was taking the pictures below, my thoughts were on how these vehicles could also serve as a valuable teaching tool to demonstrate to young inexperienced drivers the risks and dangers they are exposed to every time they get behind the wheel of a car. The picture of the car on its side up along the side of the school bus left a vivid image in my mind that I will not soon forget.

I am Thankful For The Vehicle Rescue Training At The South Fire District in Middletown, Ct, and how it keeps our local Fire Department always in a state of readiness to rescue drivers from severally damaged vehicles.  But I also hope they will be used as tools to encourage safe driving especially for our younger inexperienced drivers.

George Souto, pictures alone are scary. I am thankful for all the first responders, their jobs are very difficult, I know I couldn't do it.

That is really breathtaking, George. I think what they are doing with this display conveys a strong message. Our first responders are to be praised and respected.

George just the photos had given me the chills, and indeed I see a younger group of drivers on the road who happen to be driving erratically and I wonder why? Not worth risking their own lives...Endre

WOW! What a wonderful service, George - quite eye-opening. I do hope that this helps those new drivers to realize what can also happen to you when texting and driving. That is scarier to me more in recent years than any other kind of irresponsible driving!

Have a great weekend...

I am a very cautious driver, but I'm always freaked out by the distracted driving I see people doing.  I guess I'm old and mature enough to have stopped all that. It's great they offer training.  I see the occassional photo of an accident that I know my daughter or son in law worked and it just breaks my heart.

George Souto I once had the horrific experience of being a first responder to a bad accident without any training, just pure chance. All I could do was talk to the survivor to reassure him he wasn't alone and help was coming. I never learned what happened to him and that still haunts me. But I'm still so glad I could give him that small bit of comfort. The true First Responders are some of the bravest people I know.

Good morning George.  It's reassuring to know that your fire department will be well prepared for these types of rescues.

Having lost a number of good friends to car accidents, these pictures give me the chills, George. I've seen such rescues and am always amazed by the people who do them.
