Improving Marketing Skills by Commenting | People Helping People

Managing Real Estate Broker with RE/MAX Executive Realty 104763

How do you improve your marketing skills?  Marketing is a learned skill. Some have it naturally; some don’t. ActiveRain provides every member with the opportunity “to learn it.”

Commenting on posts written by ActiveRain members is an ideal way to learn how to market and promote yourself. A comment written on another member’s post should be one that promotes and praises the abilities of the blogger.

It takes some thought and effort to leave a comment that responds properly to make sense and complement the main theme of the post plus promote the author.  The ultimate reader of the post will be a potential client who Googles the appropriate keyword phrases.  The post will be found and the comments will be read by the potential future client. There should be an action phrase that encourages contacting the blogger of the post.

Isn’t this what we do when we market our own inventory; or provide a market report; or write a narrative about a real estate topic? We expect the reader to read the post, as well as the comments written below the post.

How powerful and helpful is it to the blogger to have a future client read a brief paragraph promoting him/her and encouraging the reader to call that blogger for guidance.

Once we have mastered that style of commenting, we will find it a natural way to leave a comment.  We will also incorporate that flavor of self-promotion within our own posts, if it’s appropriate and fits well with the topic. You’ll find that one good turn, when commenting, deserves another!!  It’s a win-win for all, on many levels.

Just a thought for the moment….

How is it you're not an AR Ambassador, Barbara? I always appreciate your generous support and marketing advice, but I love your summation of how commenting on this platform can truly benefit all. Well done!

Hi Barbara

The copy and paste commenters should read this...but perhaps they would not get the value of commenting as you have shared here.

There are certainly times when commenting is about sharing other opinions, but there are ways to do it well and appropriately, without criticizing or putting someone down or attacking them for their views. I hadn't thought about commenting necessarily as a way of learning to promote yourself and to learn about marketing.

Barbara, I love your 'thoughts for the moment' and completely agree with you! Thoughtful comments do take time to 'learn' if you're new to AR or any other similar forum. It also goes without saying that MOST do reciprocate - or it should!

One thing that you've helped me to realize is that my comments (albeit too long!) are often great fodder for a post.

I try to pay it forward with others as well - letting them know, they should write a post, expanding upon their comments!

Barbara, thanks for bringing attention to how and why we should comment on other members posts.

I have found great value in reading those comments. Sometimes we get a comment from someone with an opposing view. When it is written with a good intent it becomes a valuable part of the discussion.

Thanks for you sharing.

I don't always have the time I would like to read through the comments of other's posts. (Obviously I read every comment left on my posts)

When I do, there is so much added information....a wealth of information sometimes. It's awkward, to say the least, when you see a comment attacking the writer for one reason or another. Too often people just don't think before they write!

Completely agree, Barbara Todaro ... there are many times that I learn as much from the comments left as I did from the post being commented on.  Plus I always marvel at how differently the message of the post can resonate with its readers.  One "lesson" gained by one ... another "lesson" by another ...

Barbara Todaro you are far and away one of the most prolific posters and commenter's here, which I imagine is very similar to your tenacity in the real estate industry as well. You have been a favorite of mine since I first saw you post. I do not know how you find the time to do all that you do... must be incredibly organized as well.

Using "generic comments" a one size fits all kind of approach doesn't work other than to add points....and that has never been the point for us in the Rain !
