I Mourn the Loss of the Bees . . . Knees

Industry Observer with RETIRED / State License is Inactive Inactive License Oregon

Image result for the bee's kneesThis is a vent post about an occurrence only 30 minutes fresh.  It's a "localism" and a sign of the times, unfortunately.

I'm 58-years old.  I wasn't around when the phrase "The Bee's Knees" was uttered.  We had different words to describe AWESOME!  We had "rad."  We had "groovy."  We even went so far as to refer to something as: "bitchin' . . . "

Today I went to my local 24-Hour gym.  As I was approaching the entrance, the door was opened for me by an employee who said "Oh, hello!  They're all waiting for you."

My one word response:  Why?

"Oh, I'm just kidding . . . " she said.

So I'm sitting in the dry sauna relaxing my aches from yesterday's major lawn clean out.  And two young men walk in.  They start to talk about another 24-Hours, and start to say things like "It's f'ing awesome." And these two young boys seemed to be really impressed with the "towel service," which apparently . . . and I'm not making this up:  is the tits!

Because that's the phrase they used to describe the towel service.

Along with me having to hear the spew of f'ing awesome, and other foul-mouthed words, I had to hear the degrading manner in which they used the female anatomy -- yeah, I'm sure they were describing BIRDS --  but used the slang term to describe an "outstanding good thing."  They used the phrase more than once, and it was disgusting for me to hear.

I was not born in the era of . . .

The Bee's Knees
  1. 1.
an outstandingly good person or thing.

but today, I am mourning the loss of that era.

As we have total bee colony collapse (due to toxic chemicals), I had a total collapse of my sanity when I heard "it's the tits" used to describe, what the two neanderthals considered to be, an outstandingly good thing.

The two amoebas in the dry sauna today were rude, vulgar and disrespectful.  Trust me, I let them know!

Apparently, they were all waiting me . . . to give them a piece of my mind!

WOW Carla! I'm just shaking my head. This is the first time I've heard of that t,,s phrase. There's so much disrespect, I know many use foul language but they should avoid it when there are others around. BTW, you do not look your age at all.

That is totally unacceptable.  Unfortunately, the use of profanity and insulting words is becoming increasingly common.  It's a sad commentary on the times we live in.

I was in a fast food place with young grand kids when 3 young ladies sat by us and started throwing the F word around.  I got up and we had a few words.  Then we had a few words with the manager.  I used to work corrections and still have my ID.  I told the manager and the girls that my friends would be my next call.  Both got the message.

No reason for this language in these kinds of public places

Words are losing their meaning, aren't they?  It's a truly strange time in which we find ourselves.

Carla - I feel your pain.  I visit my local health center about 4 times a week.  After swimming laps, I like to jump in the spa, steam room, or saunam to warm up and relax.

There's nothing worse than having loud voices talking loudly about political things, or whatever.  It's far worse, when they are using a lot of profanity.  It takes the zen out of the experience.

You know you're getting old(er) when people don't understand your expressions and you don't understand their's. But there is no excuse for expressions that are or verge on vulgarity.

I have not heard the words you have mentioned. I would have thought I misunderstood what was said.

Carla Muss-Jacobs, Principal Broker (503) 810-7192 You did not need to tolerate that behavior and apparently the parents of these uncouth brats did not teach them respect for others. I would have reported this event to management promptly.

Gutter language seems to be the new norm...very sad commentary on our society.
