Rio Rancho New Mexico is a great place to buy a custom home especially if you're looking to buy a home on a large half acre lot (or more)!
Once considered the ugly step sister of Albuquerque by many, I'm here to tell you that if you have an open mind, you'll find the Rio Rancho homes have a lot to offer including great homes, great schools and lower crime that many parts of Albuquerque. For many home buyers looking to relocate to the Albuquerque metro area, that's all I have to say and they're sold!
Other people, most of which were born and raised in Albuquerque's Northeast Heights, will tell you that they would rather die than live west of the Rio Grande. No matter what I say those "homies" will probably never be convinced that they should cross the river to look for newer and larger homes on bigger lots for up to 30% less.
In fact, I recently helped a family moving to the area from Denver look for custom homes. I took them to all the popular areas of Albuquerque including Tanoan, High Desert, North Albuquerque Acres, etc, and they just couldn't find anything they liked. Several times I asked them "would you like to see some homes across the river in Rio Rancho?"
The answer was no. Everybody they had talked to said the NE Heights were the place to be.
Finally, a funny thing happened one day (and by funny I mean coincidental). A district manager for ny buyer's competing company told my client that he had bought a home in Rio Rancho., and that my client should look for a custom home there too!
Well, imagine my surprise when my buyer suggested we go take a look in Rio Rancho. Not only was I surprised, I was delighted, because all the time we were looking that's exactly what I wanted to show them!
Guess what? They fell in love, made a reasonable offer, and now they're happy homeowners west of the river.
