Measuring the Forests of Gogebic County Michigan

These are a few shots from a recent trip we took to the Northern part of Michigan for a 400,000 acre inventory and appraisal.

Lots of bald eagles up here, but they are generally shy about getting their pictures taken. Gogebic County, Michigan

Gogebic County, Michigan The timber in this stand is rather small, but the quality is consistently very good, a tribute to the previous corporate owners.

One of many Forestry Camps where we live as we travel across Michigan's Upper Peninsula.

Camping out saves fuel, time and money for us and our clients.

Gogebic County, Michigan
Gogebic County, Michigan I always enjoy the quality timber we see in the UP of Michigan.
Three young Foresters, Rachel Kronenberg, Josh Watton, and Nick Crane posing for a quick picture before heading into the woods. Gogebic County, Michigan
Gogebic County, Michigan We are always finding scraps of History out in the forest, I wonder who built this bridge, what happened to it, and why it was never rebuilt?

Last but not least, it always helps to have an old forester around to ensure that the quality in the inventory stays tip top, that the data gets back to the office quickly and the project gets done On Time. Gogebic County, Michigan

I hope you enjoyed a small glimpse into a timber cruise, or inventory.

Hey Bob...that's a lot of trees to count.  I can't imagine even taking on the task of giving a value to that large acreage.

Love the pictures and the wisdom of the old, experienced forester.  I hope the young foresters appreciate the insight of the forestry guru.

Are there any trout in those small streams? I have a custom built rod just designed to fish for them...and of course to release them back to the water. I'm just curious.

Good morning Bill, yes it is a complex task, this one took three major consulting firms and each of us had at least a half dozen people working hard for a month to get the job done.

Thank you Sally, it is nice to be the old guru.

Yes Debbie, I believe that most of these streams do have trout in them, and our trout are tasty so you won't want to throw them away after you catch them.
