Some things are beyond belief. A new furnace issue. Home inspection.

At Desert Sun Home inspections. Safety is always number one priority.

That's why when I saw this I was simply amazed.

I have seen a lot of stuff when inspecting homes. But when a new furnace was installed in this home Two years ago I would have thought the installation would have been correct.

This is what I get for thinking it would be correct.

The picture is a little fuzzy, I thought it was a lot better when I took it.

Here is what I saw when I went into the attic to inspect for this buyer.

Furnace stack not connected to vent.

The furnace stack is not connected to the rest of the vent and would be spilling toxic fumes or (Carbon monoxide) into the attic areas.

You would have thought with this being a newer unit it would have been installed correctly.

There was no "Approved sticker" on the furnace. Is that a clue as to whether they pulled a permit or not?

Here is a look at the way the furnace was installed.

New furnace installed.

There are a bunch of issues with this install. I could barly get the doors off to inspect the interior of the unit.

Sorry about the way the pictures are. They seemed fine when at the inspection.

This is why you get a home inspection and why you get a trust but verify inspection.

This is why you always get a "FULL Home Inspection" by a certified inspector. For the peace of mind.

Hi Lyn,

Maybe the owners installed the lines. They didn't have enough strength to tighten the fittings down. In any case the line should have been pressure tested before usage.

Crazy things we find when inspecting homes.

Have a great week in Illinois and thanks for the comment.

Hello Adrian,

Oh the fumes had to be getting into the home. I heard the sellers moved because they were always getting sick Duh. If they would have called me for a inspection on why they were getting sick I would have found this issue for them.

Have a nice day in Seattle my friend.

Hi Jeff,

I kinda pride my self on clear and concise pictures. These re not my best. They looked better on the camera. But once down loaded they were not that great.

This is just a stupid thing to find. The heating contractor screwed the consumer again.

Have a great day and thanks for stopping by.

Hi Rob,

Finding issues like these I feel really good about. Making a difference in the lives of the buyers. Possibly saving a life or two in the process. After all this is what it's all about.

Have a good day and week in Bristol.

Hi Tom,

Yes there was a lot of corners cut. The fastest way to install a furnace is the right way. Don't cut corners. The inspectors should and will find the issues.

Have a nice day in Placerville my friend.

Hi Jay,

But I usually have really clear pictures. But now and then we get one like this. Some times I have to re start the camera and then good to go. The furnace and attic sections of the report was really big. Safety issues abound.

Have a nice day in Bristow.

Hi Michael,

But I like the really clear pictures. This happens from time to time. And yes the gas line is a disaster. The exhaust needs repaired ASAP.

Have a good day in Brentwood.

Hi James,

Seems it's this way for most of the installers. They send out the high school kids to do jobs that the pro's should be involved with.

Have a nice day in Rogers my friend.

Hi Conrad,

NO C O Detector and not a single smoke detector in the home at all. There was no defense for the owners of this home. Sad day for sure.

Have a very good day in Webster my friend.

Clint, That is such a shame. You would think that it would have been done to code but their are no guarantees. Uncle Bob may have done HVAC years ago and offered to help out.

Hi Debbie,

I find more and more the younger kids being sent out to do this work. Too complicated for them to do unsupervised.

Have a nice day in Clarksville.

Hi Brock,

I have not seen one either. I write it up just to have the installer say that is stupid and the Realtors call no more. It ticks them off when I write things in the report that are accurate but the installer says everything is fine. Even the local JHA's are saying the same thing even though I can prove through the code book they are wrong.

Have a great day and thanks for the great comment.
