DC Metro Dining – Introducing: Bahama Breeze!
I had a feast-frenzy weekend filled with new and local favorite flavors. The latest taste was at the grand-opening weekend of Bahama Breeze, a Caribbean-themed restaurant most frequently located in the Florida region, but has quickly gained notoriety in other states, including NJ, IL, NV, and its latest, greatest location just minutes outside of the Nation’s capital, at the ever-expanding Potomac Mills Mall in Woodbridge, VA. (Potomac Mills Mall also happens to be the most popular tourist destination in Virginia, outpacing other commercial and historic attractions).
And a grand opening it was – we chose to lunch mid-afternoon in hopes of bypassing the typical noon-time lunch rush. We arrived just before 2pm, and the wait was still set for about 40 minutes. No big deal – we were among great company. The atmosphere boasted very upbeat and festive Caribbean flair.
When we were seated, we perused the extensive menu for the beverage list, and all but the husband (who goes with his usual water, ice, and lemon) chose the Lemon Breeze – fantastically fresh-squeezed lemonade-filled glass of refreshing juice, sweetened with pure sugarcane juice, topped with a sugarcane stirrer. Amazing.
The menu itself was filled with eye-candy appetizer and entrée options, reminiscent of low-key, Caribbean fresh catches, from fresh-fried Conch fritters, to Coconut battered butterfly shrimp. The menu is a seafood lovers treasure, but also served up all tasty types of turf-lovers meals, including all types of quesadillas, to classic Cuban sandwich to Jamaican Jerk-flavored meats and dishes.
It was a tough choice, but torn between craving savory as well as a sweet dish, I chose the coconut-battered butterfly shrimp, which was served with a citrusy, sweet & savory mustard dipping sauce, fresh steam broccoli and seasoned rice – it didn’t disappoint!
If you want to take a step aside from the typical dining venue, I highly recommend cruising down to Bahama Breeze – your tastebuds will thank you!
