SEO Client: "I want to ramp up the SEO this year and willing to put in huge, exorbitant bucks to make it happen"seo dollars

Isn't that something every SEO professional wants to hear... but it really isn't about throwing as much money at the issue as you want and hope it does it all for you. This was my response to him.

Hi Scott.

There are a hundred different SEO marketing companies you can pour your money into but they all basically do what we do.  There are a few different directions we can go here. You COULD use Pay-Per-Click for SEO. That's where you pick a keyword and Google will throw your site up on top of the search engines for that keyword as long as you keep paying.

If it's a popular keyword they may charge up to $3 per click. You set a certain amount of budget for that service per month and when it's maxed out someone else will go up there and your site will come down until the next billing cycle. This works fine BUT unless you are willing to pay thousands for a decent keyword that stays up all month, it's not worth it. Plus, you only pay for ONE keyword at a time.

This is a quick fix for fast work but anyone can click on the site and if it's not what they are looking for, they click away and boom you are still charged. We don't find a lot of weight in this type of marketing for the cost involved. The organic SEO that we provide keeps your site at the top for as long as it's maintained and beyond in some cases.

What I WActive RainOULD suggest is signing up for ActiveRain. I'm sure you have probably heard of this in the past but it's a real estate blogging platform. This platform is well established, Google cached regularly and the links from this site show up immediately as a positive vote for your site. We recently signed up just 3 months ago and have seen a HUGE jump in sales and interest.

Although we blog for all of our clients on our site on our ActiveRain blog, having your own account is well worth the expense and effort. I don't know if you are a huge writer but even if you are not we can assist in this for you.  I have written about the area our customers service and have come up on Google for those keywords every time. This blog would link directly back to your website and direct consumers and buyers agents alike to your listings, your service and your contact information.

According to Google Analytics, traffic that comes from referring sites instead of just the search engines carry more lead weight then search engines alone. We are finding those sites that have more percentage of referring traffic have higher numbers and more leads. Your SEO service now consists of links to your site from others and increasing those each month, writing articles for your site directly, keyword inclGoogleusion and meta tag properties for each page of your site, site submittals to prominent directories and search engines and revolving content on and off the site. This is typically what many SEO companies do. Most charge hundreds more than we do for it though. I think keeping the SEO service you have now and simply adding an ActiveRain account to the mix is probably the best way to maximize your advertising dollars and get the best back links, responses and ultimately leads for your business.

rainmakerI would suggest the Rainmaker account. This is $40 a month but all blogs are public... the free account is members only and you need to reach the public and consumers. This means every blog will show up on Google for consumers and agents and the world to see.

Internet marketing does have it's limitations. It doesn’t pay to have 5 different SEO companies all trying to do the same thing because we will continue to mess each other up and cause more confusion and more possible penalties with Google. Setting yourself up on sites such as Twitter, Zillow, Truila, Linkedin, Facebook, Stumble Upon, and Stik are all ways to get your name, business and site out theblack hatre more. There will always be a new social site but the one that gets noticed the most in real estate is by far ActiveRain.

I know this is a long email but I hope it's clear and concise.  Don't know if it's the "huge exorbitant bucks" you want to spend but I don't think you have to to make it happen.

Google hates companies that throw their name out there instantly with black hat techniques that might make you show up instantly but then get banned when they know what you are doing. Google really really likes the gradual increase of blog authority and site authority your site can attain by consistently working it.

Let me know if you need any further assistence for your Ruidoso homes website.

Tammy, this is great information and you certainly seem to know a ton about SEO. I understand new members being hesitant at first to become a Rainmaker, but it is money well spent. Thanks so much for sharing.

Tammy - Good advice here.  I've been doing my own SEO for our (now well-ranked) site since 1998, and it changes frequently, as you know.  I've been thankful to have received a solid number of sales from my SEO efforts here on AR over the past 3.5 years.

For the price and the included education as you mentioned, you can't beat $40.  But, there is a lot of sweat equity one has to invest and maybe this client does not want to be bothered.

Dan and Amy -  Thank you! I appreciate your comments. Yes, it can be iffy at first if you don't know what your involvement will be. But it doesn't take much to get involved and some highly interactive posts will get you noticed in no time.

Other than doing the blog for him, I am not sure how much more I can offer. Hence the email. Thanks for coming by!

Justin - You are probably right. But there is only so much one can do without the actual individual directly involved. I can't sell real estate for him, you know? I will do my best though! :) Thanks for the comments
