giving back: Helping the homeless: We need to think of everyone during the holiday season especially - 12/12/10 04:30 PM

At this time of year when temperatures dip sometimes in to the teens, many homeless are left cold and hungry. Though we can’t always provide housing for all the homeless, we can at least help them be more comfortable and less hungry.

This is where my son’s Cub Scout troop comes in to play. They are always doing stuff to help the community. This last week they got together and with donations from a few local stores, they were able to create bags that included band aids, water, granola bars and a pair of wool socks.

giving back: I sure hope you have insurance, because I'm about to volunteer! - 12/02/09 01:50 AM

I sure hope you have insurance, because I'm about to volunteer! I won't lie, I'm not the biggest handyman in the world. OK, I'm not handy at all, I'm so-so with cars, but give me a hammer or a saw and someone may just get hurt.

But, I needed to give back and today I volunteered anyway and in a couple weeks I will be helping a family with their Habitat for Humanity home. I'm just hoping they have insurance, because I'm pretty sure someone is going to get hurt.

giving back: Giving back, you can never be too young - 08/04/09 03:30 AM

Over the weekend I told everyone of an event that I was helping with as a volunteer. But my 10 year old daughter also wanted to be giving back and you can never be too young to do that! Since before she was born, I have been volunteering for the Oregon Ferret Shelter and helping them out with their fundraisers. But, my daughter also wanted to give back, but she had a decision that put her in tears.

You see most 10 year old girls wouldn’t have had a problem making this decision, but my daughter is different. She … (13 comments)

giving back: Dear Diary, My Passion is... - 01/29/09 03:12 PM
The end of that title is ...helping others. Heck, even the title of my blogs has "Helping" in the title, but little did I know that helping others and posting it to for the public to see would have done so much for my business.
It was Tuesday morning approximately 7:30 local time and I had written a post over the weekend and I decided to post it. But as usual I struggled with the decision if I should make this post public. There were many reasons I struggled with this post and why maybe I should keep it a members' only … (28 comments)

giving back: Today they are children, tomorrow they are leaders! - 01/25/09 04:34 PM
Everyday I see my kids grow, as well as their friends grow, and I think to myself, what will these kids become when they grow up? Will they become fire fighters, policeman, be in the military, teachers, it really doesn't matter as long as they believe in themselves!
But, what makes these kids believe in themselves? I have coached baseball and softball for the past 5 years now and have worked with kids through Junior Achievement and the Big Brothers / Big Sisters program, and most recently connected up with the Cinderella Program.
I've seen many kids come through these programs without a … (8 comments)

giving back: Bad is never good until worse happens - 01/11/09 04:08 AM
This proverb speaks volumes doesn't it? But, I don't want good, I want great. So the only way to do that is to go out and find it. Bad, Good, Great, none of these will find you, you find them by your actions.
Here is a list of my actions for January 2009 that I plan on helping me from good to great!
Donate more time to charitable organizations
Spend more time with my kids
Go to church
Spend less time working and more time earning
Be more positive and give encouragement to those in need What are your actions today going … (6 comments)

giving back: This week I got to experience true giving and Christmas a little early - 10/22/08 04:50 AM
About two years ago I had a client buy a new home and put a lot of her stuff in to a POD. What I didn't know was she put me as an emergency contact on the account.
On Wednesday, PODS called me saying they have been unable to reach my client and her POD was going to auction tomorrow unless they received $1900 before 9am the next day.
WOW! OK, time to make some phone calls. I call one of my friends who goes to these auctions all the time and he asks for the account number. If he could get it … (22 comments)
