April Showers Brought May Flowers

May Flowers

After a wet and windy spring, this is the result of my annual manual labor in my Flower Mound garden. I enjoy planting and adding something new every year. The flowers in the top left was a complete surprise! When I planted it into the earth, there were no buds or flowers! To me, it looks uniquely exotic and I am proud of how it turned out! The photo on the top right was taken a few days ago when the winds were blowing fast. I felt as if the petals waved back at me, letting me know they would be okay.

On the bottom left is my repeat hydrangea. I love that it flips from pink to blue blossoms. This year I got pink!  On the bottom right is another beautiful surprise. There were no buds when I planted it and yet it survived some crazy thunderstorms and lots of wind.

My perspective of gardening is this: Flowers and plants are part of every-ones ancestry, benevolently tended to by our ancestors, pioneers, immigrants, the bees, butterflies, and the wind. With intimate care by human hands, we can make the world more beautiful. My objective is to preserve these cherished relics of our ancestors. I love to watch my garden grow, making sure they get just the right amount of water and weeds are removed, giving them room to grow and breathe in comfort. In return, flowers give me joy. In my mind's eye plants and flowers reunites me to my ancestors and those things that came before me, including bees, butterflies, and the wind.

Joe Pryor - No accolades for me - no yard of the month either. The pleasure is all mine and to those who stop and appreciate what I've done. It's my way of giving back!

Thank you, Joe!

Anna Banana Kruchten, CRS - How how sad - that landscaping company needs to get out of business! But thank God you took it back and it has rewarded you with fresh and happy blooms. I am very appreciative of people like you who make the world a more beautiful place.

Thank you!

Hi Patricia - I like your thoughts about our connection to the plants. We're still waiting on ours - they know better than to poke their heads out too early around here - we had 6" of snow on them yesterday, but that should be the last of it.

Dick Greenberg - I always value your insights and appreciate how you respond to my writing. Thank you, it means a lot to me.

Could it be that Colorado needs more snow for longer period of time to keep tree roots stronger and deeper so they grow tall enough to practically reach the sky? Is the purpose of deeply fallen snow and ice to challenge people on skis and snowboarding? Is it possible people who live in and near beautiful mountains and hills see things differently than others who kick back on sandy beaches? Is there something mystical about mountain views that can lift the spirit ? Dick, do you feel in-tuned to nature, intellectually stimulated, and more alert to the call of the wild?

George Souto - I just checked and my thumbs are not green but I do love the color green and I enjoy digging in the dirt. Oddly enough, as opposed to general house cleaning, I never strain a muscle when I'm in my garden. I keep a watchful eye on every plant I grow and treat the like children - with love and TLC.

Lou Ludwig - The recent rains have been good to my plants and the trees are very happy! Everything is green and growing and the gardens are bursting with majestic colors. They are literally bursting out of the earth and giving me joy! I'd like to think that when I leave this earth my flowers will live on.

Hi Patricia,

What a great presentation of your flowers. You can just feel the love that you have infused in these beauties. There is something very, very cathartic about planting and caring for your garden. I try to manage having some fragrant flowers that bloom at different times to always provide the welcome home scent.

Hi Patricia... I don't have a green thumb at all... so all my bushes, flowering or not, are kind of on their own! But guess what, my house is not grey with white trim. It's hydrangea blue with white trim! (Used to be yellow until I repainted a few years ago.) See picture below... and as you can see I'm no photographer. The house looks like it's leaning.

Nina Hollander - WOW! I love your hydrangea blue with with trim house! It's so beautiful! I love the huge front porch and the landscaping too! That's my definition of a house! Talk about enjoying southern comfort!!!

As for the photograph, my photos looked like that but then when we went digital I took several shots moving the camera, looking at the photo, taking another photo, moving my hands slightly to the left, again, repeat until I got it right. As I got more practice I kept deleting the leaning house until I got it right; then I would look at it from a different point of view and worked on side shots too. We are ALL photographers, we just need to work on the steady hand. I often wonder if that's really what happened with the Leaning Tower of Pica!

Myrl Jeffcoat - I love that you appreciated my flowers well enough to feature it in the Photos Group. As a result, I woke up happy! Any type of feature uplifts ones spirits and this morning I was uplifted, thanks to you!

Thank you, so much! I also appreciated your comments about my presentation and how it was framed - that means a lot to me and gives me encouragement too! It takes time to write, take photos, choose the right ones; and figure out how you're going to present it on your blog post. Thank you for the recognition. I appreciate you!

Sheri Sperry - MCNE® - your words spoke to me directly. You'll never know how good you make me feel. For me, writing and putting photos with words is a personal essay. My passion is real and I strive to see the beauty in nature. I don't just plant flowers, I'm their guardian too! They mean something to me and when I share my passion with others, I can only hope others feel something too.

Thank you - you're the best!

Patricia Feager ~ hi Patricia... so glad you approve of my color choices! Made quite a statement the day the house was painted... and within weeks all sorts of new bright colors started popping up and down the street. I started a real trend.
