Setting the Table in Real Estate

Barbara Todaro's (soon to be featured) post Time is Money But Only When the Time is Used to Make Money had some very good examples.  One of which was knowing the product.

It got me thinking . . . and provided my "food for thought" for this post. {wink}

Setting the Table in Real Estate

As Barbara points out, knowing the product is invaluable . . . but there is also the place setting.

What do I mean by that?

The product is the home, of course, getting out to pre-view inventory is a tried and true practice.

But what about the place settings?

Yesterday I was out with a very nice couple who are contemplating a relocation move from Los Angeles.   They contacted me, and it was nice to go out with them, even though I knew they would not be buying anything at the moment.

I was setting the table for them.

We went through some areas and neighborhoods,

and that was the place setting!

While driving through the neighborhoods I, verbally, placed the setting.  I talked about many of the areas' attributes, took them to centrally local parks, showed them the wonderful amenities.

When we passed points of interest, I mentioned them, because I was place setting.

Here is a post I forwarded to them today, as a follow-up:  The Swifts of Portland

We passed the Chapman Elementary School where we have Swifts migrating each year.  A truly amazing local event.  The Swifts land in the school's chimney stack . . . tens of thousands of them, each year.

Knowing the product is the meal.

Presenting the product with a lovely place setting is important . . . especially when highlighting to relocation buyers!

Great post and analogy. Thanks for sharing! As a relocation agent, I can tell you that there is a lot of place setting before they are ready to sit down for the meal!

Hi Carla- what an apt analogy!  And, I would say that you definitely set the table for your relocating buyers.  It's not just the home they will be buying but a new lifestyle and community.

Carla nicely done.  It is so important to make an area come alive for a potential buyer, this can only be achieved if we know the area well.

This is so true. If you can't explain to the buyers about the area, the neighborhood or the schools you are doing them a injustice.

I learned something new today, thanks to you.  A swift eats bugs!  LOL!  Good for them and I'm sure everyone loves them for that.

Love this post because it's so true.  Sharing learned knowledge sets you apart from other agents, ie setting the table!

Nice post!  With my rural and resort marketplace - setting the table is a natural stage of my process with nearly all buyers!  Its rare when I get the opportunity to work with buyers who are already knowledgeable about my community, and who are sure its right for them.

Recently I had the opportunity to show some relocation buyers moving from California to Madison, MS. I showed them a variety of neighborhoods offering different amenities and pointed out my favorite shopping and eateries along our route. Sometimes even though we are in are communities every day we can take their beauty and all they have to offer for granted.
